How does solar work?
Solar PV (photovoltaic) uses light sensitive semi-conducting materials that generate direct electric current when exposed to sunlight. This is then converted via an inverter into AC current which can then be used as household/business electricity. This is different from solar thermal which uses the suns energy to heat water.
Is Northern Ireland sunny enough for solar energy?
Solar panels actually work on daylight as opposed to direct sunlight. Even cloudy days will generate significant amounts of electricity. Although hard to believe sometimes our sunshine levels are equal to middle England where solar has been increasingly popular over the last few years.
How long do solar systems last?
Our unique warranties guarantee that the panels will be working at 95% efficiency after 12 years and 85% efficiency after 25 years. It is reasonable to expect another 10/15 years beyond this.
Do I need planning permission to install solar?
Currently domestic properties do not require planning permission unless they are in a conservation area or are listed.
How much energy will my system make?
We are able to confidently predict the output for your system based on climate data for your specific postcode for the last twenty years. This report and calculation will form part of the original quotation.
How do I get the most from my solar panels?
As the sun moves from East to West the optimum position for your roof is to be south facing. The closer to the exact point of south your roof is facing, the better the output from your panels.
What are the maintenance requirements?
As there are no moving parts, solar requires very little maintenance to ensure maximum output. If the panels are installed at the correct angle they effectively become self cleaning.
How much will it cost?
How long is a piece of string? There are many variable involved and we cannot give you an exact price until we both survey your property and discuss with you, without obligation, exactly what your requirements and expectations are. This way we can maximise the return on your investment.
